In late 2022, a water pipeline was replaced as part of an emergency upgrade that resulted in significant clearing of dune vegetation near Coolum, Queensland. This area was highly visible to the community, who had concerns about the dune destruction resulting from the emergency works.
Biodiverse Environmental were engaged to undertake a revegetation plan, to meet community concerns and those of the stakeholders. The plan involved analysing the surrounding vegetation and site works and developing a strategy to account for any future works and subsequent access needed, whilst still providing an environmental benefit for when the site is rehabilitated.
Low growing flora species were recommended for the pipeline centre and a mix of trees and shrubs for the surrounding area, with a selection of screen species selected to provide an access screen to limit pedestrian access to the site.
The site was planted with 900 plants and an enhanced watering regime was implemented to the combat high temperatures and dry weather conditions at the time of planting.
