Biodiverse Environmental carried out fauna management services for Halls Contracting, during a dewatering project in 2022 at Steve Irwin Way, Glasshouse Mountains.
A pre-clearance survey was conducted by the Biodiverse Environmental Dewatering Specialist prior to the commencement of each day of works. The purpose of these surveys was for the dewatering specialist to identify any fauna, potential habitat features and/or animal breeding places within the project boundaries; and to relocate any fauna that may have been impacted by the vegetation clearing and earthworks, to nearby suitable habitat. The dewatering specialist was also present for the entirety of the dewatering process to identify, capture and relocate any fauna impacted by the works.
During the dewatering process, seven vertebrate species and one invertebrate species were found and a total of 175 animals were located within the project boundaries. All uninjured fauna was identified, captured and relocated to suitable habitat 150 metres downstream, outside of the clearing limits.
