Vegetation removal was due to occur as the initial works for Stage 1 of the Heights Estate Residential Development. As a requirement for the vegetation removal to proceed, Pembroke Construction engaged Biodiverse Environmental to carry out the fauna spotter catcher works for the project.
Preceding any vegetation works, a pre-clearance survey was conducted by a Biodiverse Environmental fauna spotter catcher. The pre-clearance survey was conducted to locate fauna, potential habitat features and animal breeding places; and to relocate any fauna that would have been impacted by the vegetation clearing and earthworks, to a suitable habitat.
A fauna spotter catcher was also present during all vegetation clearing activities to capture and relocate any fauna being impacted by the works.
During the vegetation clearing works, several Common Ringtail Possums (Pseudocheirus perigrinus) and Common Brushtail Possums (Trichosurus vulpecula) were observed. These individuals were either observed self-relocating or were captured and relocated into nearby suitable habitat by the fauna spotter catcher.
Having the fauna spotter catcher onsite, not only fulfilled the client’s fauna management requirements, but also ensured that any potential impacts to the native fauna in the area were minimised.
