A planned hazard reduction and ecological burn was conducted in 2021 at Albany Creek by Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC).
Biodiverse Environmental assisted MBRC throughout the planning stage and with on the ground management, by conducting a fauna habitat assessment prior to the burn. The fauna habitat assessment included raking fire breaks around significant habitat trees to ensure they were not destroyed and that they did not become potential hazards during the burn.
Biodiverse also provided fauna spotter catchers to work closely with the fire teams during the burn to monitor habitat features, and to watch for koalas and other fauna within the burn area. This was done to ensure all fauna remained safe during the burn, and if necessary, fauna could be relocated to safe zones away from the burn area.
During the planned burn, information on burn intensity, ecological outcomes and observed fauna species was recorded to allow for recommendations to be drafted for consideration for any future planned burns in the area.
